Two members of our parish community, Hannah Wilce and her mum Jillian, travelled with a group of 90 young people from Plymouth and Clifton diocese, to Kraków in Poland for World Youth Day, 25-31 July, 2016.

They sent back a great selection of photos, which reflect the experiences they had and help to give us a flavour of the events that took place.

Jillian wrote: “What is extraordinary is that many of these young people are the only person of their age in their parish and here they are meeting literally millions of young Catholics from across the globe. After feeling so isolated here they sense deep solidarity and communion. This video was taken after the opening mass held in a park a little like Hyde Park”.

“That morning we had visited Auschwitz unable to comprehend the horror and sorrow of that place. We left prayerfully, tearfully and in deep sorrow”.

“To return to mass followed by such joy and hope was an appropriate response. The whole city was full to the gills with young joyous hope filled Catholics”.

The Guardian featured the following image taken by Liz Toy, in their coverage of World Youth Day. It shows some of the Plymouth and Clifton Diocese contingent, with Hannah to the far left by the smaller flag. You can see the original article here!
