Laudato Si’, the new ‘environmental’ encyclical from Pope Francis has been published today, 18 June 2015.

This document looks to address the profound environmental challenges we now face, whether on an individual level or through the morally responsible decisions and actions that we hope our representative policy-making bodies, large corporations and nation-states will take.

In his introduction, the Holy Father tells us: “The urgent challenge to protect our common home includes a concern to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change. The Creator does not abandon us; he never forsakes his loving plan or repents of having created us. Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home.” LS § 13

In contrast to some church documents of the past, this is a straightforward, forthright and very readable text, just as we found with Evangelii Gaudium… Another hallmark of the papacy of Francis!

Already creating quite a stir on a global scale, you can read it online at the Vatican website here or order a printed copy from CTS here.
